BIO
Julia Dean’s work embodies her reflective nature and thoughtful approach to life. Her figures and sculpture reveal an intense combination of raw, earth-like surfaces and maternal, life-giving forms. Julia's functional work is a concentration on gentle yet straightforward form and simple glaze combination. Dean has studied ceramics at Murray State University, Texas Christian University, and Penland School of Crafts. With a degree in education, she has taught ceramics in various schools, universities and studios across the country. Since 1997, her work has been predominantly functional with attention to simple form and color. 2009 brought the first presentation of Dean's sculptural work to the public.
